One of the most important premises for the design of the Office Repose Device was to maximize bodily relaxation in a short time for an employee.
This is achieved by using the idea of the gyro-wheel. When using the gyro-wheel, one hangs temporarity from one`s feet, head over. Thus the joints and the musculature are allowed to „hang out“ freely. At the same time, the brain receives an intensified oxygen-supply, which, if applied moderately, helps to regenerate it.
The principle of the gyro-wheel is adapted to the design of the Office Repose Device by employing an angle of 8,5 degree at which the user lies, head-downward. Tests have shown this angle to be particularly benefical since the oxygen-supply of the brain is intensified. A subjective sense of pressure in the head is felt as stimulating. Simultaniously the body`s musculature „hangs out“.
The second principal idea of the design refers to man`s periodically recurring need for sleep. In lots of countries regular short times of rest are prescribed legally to maintain the health of employees. Studies have shown that the „inner clock“ of man is often in conflict with the time-structures given by society. Generally every three hours a short sleeping period is needed.
The development of the Office Repose Device responds to this basic human need by allowing short periods of sleep that are physically and psychically relaxing.
The time of staying on the Office Repose Device that is generally felt as comfortable ammounts to ten to fifteen minutes. Afterwards the body is relaxed and the mind refreshed.
